Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer / Data Analyst with strong hands-on experience in Python, Apache Spark/PySpark, SQL, Databricks, cloud data services, data modeling, and data visualization.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable building scalable data pipelines while also analyzing complex datasets, identifying trends and insights, and communicating findings to both technical and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes using Python and Apache Spark.
- Build scalable data processing solutions using PySpark/Spark SQL.
- Analyze large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and actionable insights.
- Develop dashboards and visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
- Work directly with stakeholders to understand business requirements and data challenges.
- Translate technical data findings into clear business recommendations.
- Troubleshoot data quality, pipeline, integration, and performance issues.
- Develop and maintain data models and data processing workflows.
- Work with cloud-based data platforms and services.
- Document technical designs, processes, and data solutions.
- Collaborate with engineering, analytics, architecture, and business teams in an Agile environment.
Required Skills
- 10+ years of overall IT/Data Engineering experience.
- 3+ years Python experience in data engineering, scripting, or analytics.
- 3+ years Apache Spark/PySpark/Spark SQL experience.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, including Star Schema, Dimensional Modeling, Normalization, and ER Design.
- Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, Cassandra, and/or DynamoDB.
- Hands-on Databricks experience on Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Experience with cloud data services such as:
- Azure Data Factory
- AWS Glue
- Amazon S3
- ADLS
- Delta Lake
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization tools.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
- Willingness to work hybrid in the Washington, DC metro area.
Nice to Have
- Federal government or federal consulting experience.
- Experience with federal data governance and compliance.
- Knowledge of FISMA/FedRAMP.
- Active Public Trust or federal clearance.
- Experience with large-scale data modernization or migration projects.
